OXIDATION REMOVAL
Fiberglass boats are covered in gelcoat, the purpose of which is to protect your fiberglass from the harmful conditions that your boat will endure throughout its lifespan. These harmful conditions like UV rays from the sun, water, wind, and other contaminants present in the environment eventually wear on your gelcoat and result in oxidation. Oxidation appears as fading or discoloration and is essentially a layer of dead or damaged gelcoat sitting on top of your healthy gelcoat underneath. If your boat fits this description; it is likely in need of a buff, a polish, and a wax. The buff removes the oxidation, the polish smooths the surface to a shine, and the wax adds a deeper gloss finish and protection against future oxidation. Boats with exceptionally damaged gelcoat may require further steps in the form of wet-sanding or additional buffing steps.
The Exterior Buff + Wax Package May Include:
decontamination of gelcoat, including water spots, iron stains, paint transfers, etc.
A buff (or multiple) to remove oxidation from the Gelcoat.
A polish to remove any swirls left behind by the buff as well as bring the shine back to your gelcoat.
Application of a Polymer Sealant or Wax to protect the gelcoat from further UV damage and add gloss and depth to the finish of your gelcoat.
Heavily oxidized gelcoats may require wet-sanding to bring the boat back to a shiny, healthy gelcoat.
